Hugh Jackman, who is currently celebrating the success of his film Deadpool & Wolverine, has paid an emotional tribute to his high school music teacher, Brian Buggy.

The renowned star shared that his teacher has taught “thousands” of students for many years.

On Thursday night, Hugh mourn the death of Brian on his Instagram Stories.

"I want to pay tribute to Brian, OAM," he began the tribute note, "He was in charge of music at Knox High School. He taught me, and literally thousands of students across the years, a deep love and joy for music."

The 55-year old actor further wrote, "That love has stayed with me all my life. His lessons were filled with humour, and he effortlessly held a room in the palm of his hand. To Brian's family, I send my deepest condolences, immense respect and unending gratitude."

Hugh's also shared a black-and-white photo of his late musical mentor.

The American actor has showcased his musical talent on numerous occasions, including 2012's Les Misérables and 2017's The Greatest Showman.

Brian used to teach at Knox Grammar School in Sydney from 1975 to 2007. He died at the age of 84.
