World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on October 10 to spread awareness and the importance of mental health.

The World Health Organization on October 10, 1992, founded the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). Since then, it has been marked as World Mental Health Day. On this day every year, over 150 countries with different themes and objectives advocate for mental health care.

The 2024 Mental Health Day theme is ‘Mental Health at Work,’ reflecting the importance of the mental well-being of employees.

Here are some tips suggested by the American Psychological Association (APA) to make workplace mental health-friendly for employees.

Increase Employees’ Options For Work

For the mental well-being of the employees, increase their work choices and opinions about when, where, and how they work.

As per the APA 2024 Work in America survey, employees are more satisfied at work when they are given the chance to decide whether they want to work fully in-person, fully remote, or in a hybrid.

The research suggests that control over the work environment increases the performance and motivation of the workers.

Ask For Feedback

Research has found that employees are more likely to stay longer at their jobs when they feel that they have a voice in organizational decisions.

Proactive communication with the employees made them stress-free and increased the creativity of the employees.

Make The Environment Inclusive And Equitable

A psychologically healthy workplace that provides an inclusive and equitable work environment for the workers. Discrimination and organizational or interpersonal inequities made the job highly stressful for the workers and encouraged them to leave their jobs.

To note, as per WHO data almost 60% of the world's population is in work and 15% of working-age adults were estimated to have a mental disorder in 2019.
