ChatGPT's parent company OpenAI introduced free artificial intelligence training courses for teachers.
According to Reuters, OpenAI, along with non-profit partner Common Sense Media on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, launched free courses for instructors to help them understand the concept and basics of artificial intelligence.
This comes after the AI company decided to promote its AI chatbot Chat-GPT for its positive role in education. GPT was launched two years back in November 2022 and quickly became one of the fastest-growing applications in the world.
Former Coursera executive and the head of free courses for teachers, Leah Belsky, told Reuters, “My goal in this role is to put AI into the hands of every student and every teacher… and also give them the skills to learn how to do it responsibly and effectively.”
She noted that student adoption of ChatGPT is “very, very high,” and parents are usually supportive and view AI skills as an essential future skill.
The free training courses are available for kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers. The courses would show them how the ChatGPT chatbot could help teachers with different educational purposes, including creating engaging lesson plans, organizing department meetings, and other educational activities.
The first collaborative course of OpenAI with Common Sense Media is available on the Common Sense Media website.
