Novak Djokovic paid a heartfelt tribute to tennis legend Fred Stolle ahead of Indian Wells opening match.

According to Tennis World, Serbian tennis star who is all set to face Dutch ace Botic van de Zandschulp on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in the debut match of the tournament paid tribute to late Australian icon and commentator.

The world No. 7 during his pre-tournament press conference said, “I would like to send my condolences to his family. It's never good news when a legend of our sport leaves us. The mark he left and the impact he had will remain forever etched in everyone's memory.”

24-time Grand Slam winner continued, “I think it's very important for the new generations to remember Fred and all the other legends who helped make tennis the sport we know today. This is very sad news, but his legacy is destined to last forever."

Fred, whom Tennis Australia called “one of its great players and characters,” died at the age of 86 on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

Furthermore, Indian Wells Masters will be Djokovic’s first tournament after the 2025 Australian Open. During the Grand Slam tournament, the 37-year-old retired mid-match in the semifinals due to a hamstring injury.
