Jack Draper reached the third round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Saturday, March 8.
The player easily defeated Joao Fonseca, a Brazilian wild card player with a score of a 6-4, 6-0 in straight sets.
As per BBC Sports, Draper was playing his first match in the Masters 1000 tournament because he did not have to compete in the first round as he automatically received a bye.
After winning the match, the player expressed, "I feel I did a really good job and I'm proud of the way I competed, the way I moved and what I did tactically.”
Draper also praised Fonseca by saying, "The kid is an unbelievable player with such firepower. It is so good to have a superstar coming up - I'm sure he is going to be a top player.”
The 23-year-old added, “I knew I had to be strong and use my experience to be really competitive and do what was in my control.”
Draper has played only two tournaments this year because he is still dealing with a hip injury from the off-season and despite this, he won three tough matches that went to five sets, reaching the last 16.
He will now face American Jenson Brooksby, who defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
On the other hand, Sonay Kartal, the third-ranked British women's player reached the third round by defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia, the 16th seed from Brazil, marking the biggest win of her career.
