
Nintendo has officially announced to launch GameCube controller, designed for the Switch 2, while gamers are not happy about the restriction.
Nintendo on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, revealed a restriction connected with the GameCube controller, which was one of the highlights in Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, showcased alongside the new console’s impressive and improved hardware and software.
Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube controller restriction
According to a recent trailer, Nintendo revealed that the GameCube controller will only be compatible with the Nintendo GameCube Classics library.
Nintendo announced the GameCube games coming to the Switch 2 at launch, which will join the Nintendo's GameCube Classics library. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2 and F-Zero GX will be available to play on day one, and the publisher’s Nintendo Treehouse livestream confirmed more titles would be added later on.
Some social media users believed the restriction was a mistake that the controller couldn’t even be used to play the Super Smash Bros. game.
Meanwhile, some gamers remarked to use the Pro Controller 2, which is compatible with all the games on Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube controller launch
The new GameCube controller is officially confirmed to launch on June 5, 2025, alongside the Nintendo Switch 2.
To note, Nintendo plans to add Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Animal Crossing to the GameCube catalogue, in addition to classics like Mario Kart: Double Dash and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
