Mark Zuckerberg celebrated a full decade of one of the internet’s most memorable memes this week. On October 9-10, 2026, the Meta CEO went live on Instagram with the simple caption “A decade of smoking meats.”

The original moment that started it all

Exactly ten years earlier, on October 9, 2016, Zuckerberg streamed himself from his backyard on Facebook Live. He repeatedly declared he was “smoking meats” while cooking brisket and ribs. The flat, earnest delivery turned the video into a massive meme that still circulates today.

What happened this time

In the new Instagram Live, Zuckerberg cooked ribs and hot dogs sourced from his own ranch in Kauai, Hawaii. He used a Big Green Egg smoker and the official Big Green Egg account even jumped into the comments to thank him for “bringing us along for the ride.”

A notable upgrade from 2016 appeared during the stream: Zuckerberg revealed that Meta’s new Muse AI agent was connected to his smoker via Bluetooth.

The AI monitored the cook so he did not have to constantly check the temperature. He joked about the meats “literally smoking themselves.”

How fans reacted

The post quickly gained hundreds of thousands of likes. Commenters celebrated the throwback, with one writing “We are soooo back” and another calling the moment “actually funny.”

The livestream mixed nostalgia with the modern Zuck persona – more relaxed, meme-aware, and still very much into backyard cooking.

Ten years later, the man who once awkwardly announced he was smoking meats has leaned fully into the joke. The anniversary session proved the original clip still holds power and that Zuckerberg is happy to keep the smoke and the memes going.
