Anil Kapoor has been openly nervous about taking parental roles in movies. He admitted to playing one for the first time in Dil Dhadakne Do only because Ranbir Kapoor had initially signed it.
The star cast for Animal recently sat down for a talk with Netflix India. During the chat, Anil was asked about his opinion on the complex father-son relationship shown in their latest flick together.
Hearing this, Ranbir interrupted by reflecting on his earlier days. It was the time when Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya hadn’t released yet. The then-budding star would visit Sonam Kapoor’s house for rehearsals, where Anil once told him, “I never play fathers’ roles, but I will play your father’s role.”
Then, Anil himself intervened into the conversation and revealed of signing Dil Dhadakne Do just for this particular wish, which eventually couldn’t be fulfilled when Ranbir was later replaced by Ranveer Singh.
It still encouraged the actor to keep taking father roles as he went on to appear in Mubarakan, Fanney Khan, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, AK vs AK, Jug Jugg Jeeyo, and finally alongside his favorite on-screen son in Animal.
