Robert De Niro has revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio made an excellent impression the first time they met.
It was during a pre-production stage for their 1993 movie, This Boy’s Life.
At the time, Robert had won two Oscars already and was signed to play the pivotal role of Dwight Hansen.
On the other hand, Leo was only known for appearing in season 7 of a sitcom called Growing Pains. He was there to audition for a role, which wasn’t for the character of Tobias Wolff that he eventually got.
Robert told People Magazine in a recent interview, “I said to Art Linson, the producer, ‘Art, that kid was really, it was interesting.’ I didn't push it. I just said, ‘That kid had something special,’ and then they turned around and wound up using Leo.”
Turns out, it was because of the Taxi Driver lead that Leo not only landed a better part for the flick, but also got to work closely with him since both played important bits.
Fans say it’s however to be noted that the then-budding star still impressed his senior with just his acting skills and not connections, which is why the movie became a hit.
