America Ferrera has said that she couldn’t stop tears from rolling down her cheek after meeting Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time.
Sitting for an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers recently, the celebrity explained how an individual can be unexpectedly left starstruck at a Hollywood event.
According to her, she had a special “childhood connection” with the Killers of the Flower Moon lead, so when they encountered each other at the 2007 Screen Actors Guild Awards, she was overwhelmed with emotions.
The Barbie star had just won an accolade for portraying Betty Suarez in Ugly Betty, and saw Leo there a few moments later.
"I watched Titanic in the movie theaters seven times. I was 13 or 14 years old, prime time to be in love with Leonardo DiCaprio, right?” America said.
She added, “First time I went to the SAG Awards, I had won for Ugly Betty. I had been onstage and the whole thing. I was feeling kind of like, 'I belong here, this is cool.' "
As soon as the actor said “hello” to Leo, she ran away to bawl her eyes out!
“I promptly departed from him, went around the corner and just started weeping," America recalled, “And my husband, then-boyfriend, was with me and he was like, 'I am so embarrassed right now.' "
While her partner, Ryan Piers Williams, stopped her from sobbing, she hopes that Leo “never sees” the late night episode.
