Anurag Kashyap has called out Bengali and Hindi filmmakers for working on below standard projects.

He was in attendance at the Kolkata French Film Festival a couple days back, where a seminar was held for the prosperity of cinema.

Sharing his views regarding recent developments, the filmmaker remarked that Bengali movies are totally “ghatiya” now.

As per a report by OTT Play, he expressed his disappointment in productions falling so quickly from the peak of their golden phase, which was when people like Satyajit Ray and Ritwick Ghatak made remarkable works such as Pather Panchali and Titash Ekti Nadir Naam.

Anurag then went on to blast his own territory of the Hindi film industry.

He lamented that, just like Tollywood, Bollywood is seeing a drop in quality, but it had never reached the breakthrough point that Bengali-language pictures once did to begin with.

“The fall in the quality of Hindi films is a fall from the first floor. Bengali films used to be in a far higher position. And hence, the fall is so evident,” the No Smoking director said.

Interestingly, fans have complained that Anurag’s own set of filmography is lately dipping well below the acceptance mark with poorly received ventures like Ghoomketu, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, and Kuttey.
