Emraan Hashmi has expressed he had to face resentment for a long time after calling Aishwarya Rai Bachchan “plastic” in a 2014 Koffee With Karan rapid fire.
The celebrity recently sat with Bollywood Bubble, where the host asked if his character in upcoming series, Showtime, is similar to how he was as a person during that KWK episode.
“I am playing a fictional character, who calls a spade a spade,” Emraan spoke about his performance in the web show.
Moving on to addressing the controversy, he said, “Talking about Koffee With Karan, well I had to bear the brunt for it for quite some time for really calling a spade a spade.”
“When that rapid-fire round happened, Karan had cut the shot, and he just looked around on the set and everyone was dumbfounded! He asked ‘Can you actually keep this?’ And a couple of people behind the camera said ‘Yes,’ ” the star added.
He however clarified his personal views regarding Aishwarya.
Emphasizing on his respect for her, he remarked, “I didn’t mean it. I’m a big fan. It’s the show format. I can’t not say things and not win the hamper. I love her.”
“Have always been a great admirer of her work. I knew people would make a big deal out of it… so what, people make a big deal out of nonsense all the time,” the serial-kisser concluded.
This episode was the ninth feature on KWK’s fourth season.
For the rapid fire round, Karan said he will be shooting some words and asked Emraan to take names of any actor who comes to his mind when he hears them.
When the word “plastic” was called, the Good Boy, Bad Boy lead replied with Aishwarya’s name.
