Cillian Muphy, who is still receiving the honours and immense praises for his performance in 2023 hit Oppenheimer has reportedly named for the role of James Bond in the next film.
As reported by The Sun, an inside source has exclusively revealed that Murphy is eyed to play the next James Bond has impressed the film makers with his performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
“Cillian is the toast of Hollywood right now and this would be the ultimate role,” revealed the source.
They further added, “This is a way to elevate the Bond franchise with an actor who is at the very top of his game.”
According to the outlet, Cillian Murphy’s performance has caught the attention of James Bond producer, Barbara Broccoli, who has been considering the Batman Begins actor as Daniel Craig’s replacement.
Meanwhile, Murphy’s Oppenheimer’s costar Clay Bunker also supported the thought of casting The Peaky Blinders actor as next 007.
“He would fare beautifully. It's funny because Cillian is the nicest human but he has that dark side and there's a darkness to Bond,” said Bunker.
He continued, “We forget that sometimes Bond is like the character [Ian] Fleming created — a pretty dark character. He just happens to be on the side that we call good. Cillian has that ability to tap into that.”
To note, the character of James Bond was played by Daniel Craig Casino Royale in 2005, while he reprised his role for the last time in No Time To Die in 2021.
Moreover, Cillian Murphy is also expected to win the Oscar award for Oppenheimer.
