Homi Adajania has stated that no actor from his debut movie, Being Cyrus, asked if he had directed before because they were all impressed by his polished narration.

Chatting with Cyrus Broacha in a recent YouTube catchup, the filmmaker said, “Neither Saif nor Naseeruddin Shah or Dimple Kapadia asked me if I had made a movie before. They assumed that I was an ad filmmaker.”

“I’m a decent storyteller. I get very enthused. So, they had a clear idea of what I exactly wanted from the film. They didn’t know I was sitting in my lungi on a jetty in Lakshwadeep, catching fish,” Homi jokingly added.

Starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah, and Bomen Irani, the production focused on a dysfunctional Parsi family living together.

It was released 18 years ago, on March 24, and gathered acclaim for daring to be an English dark comedy in an industry overruled by Hindi films.

The gamble for financers was even bigger because it was based on a book that was rejected for its profanity by publishers.

Homi mentioned, “I had a story but no technical knowledge. In the ad space, I had only delved into the creative part with a little bit of editing experience.”

So, for him, a group of great performers being floored by his narration style was a huge thing.
