US State Department official for human rights, Annelle Sheline, resigned from her post in opposition to US President Joe Biden's policy for Israel and Gaza.

Sheline announced her resignation on Wednesday, March 27, in an interview with the Washington Post.

As per The Guardian, she has claimed that the Biden administration is going against US laws by continuing to arm Israel.

Sheline said, “I wasn’t able to really do my job anymore…. Trying to advocate for human rights just became impossible.”

She also said that the US is quiet on the evidence it has seen of the human rights abuse by Israel.

According to Sheline, she had hoped that by staying at her post she could have an influence on policy but now she has lost her confidence that she could do anything that could affect US arms flow to Israel.

Sheline told The Guardian, “The fundamental reason was, I no longer wanted to be affiliated with this administration."

"I have a young daughter. She’s not yet two, but if someday in the future, she is learning about this and knows that I was at the State Department and she asked me (about it), I want to be able to tell her that I did what I could," she added.

Annelle Sheline is the second State Department official to resign publicly since October 7, 2023.
