Ranbir Kapoor has recounted a few memories from the times when parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor gave him a whack.
Appearing on The Great Indian Kapil Show recently, his mother mentioned that people still share interesting stories about the star’s late father with her.
Hearing this, Ranbir quickly chimed in, saying, “80% of these must of be of him yelling at them.”
Then, he recalled, “I once received a hard beating.”
“Received a beating?” Neetu immediately reconfirmed.
The actor then went on to elaborate, “It was Diwali Pooja at RK studios. Papa was very religious. I think I was 8 or 9 years old. I had stepped inside the temple wearing shoes. I got a smack on my head.”
Sitting among the audiences with pointed ears, Archana Puran Singh inquired, “By the way, have you never received a beating from your mummy?”
“With a hanger! Mummy used to lock me inside the bathroom,” the Wake Up Sid lead responded.
His mother felt the need to clarify, “I used to ask him to step inside and shut the door. He used to cry as soon as I would say that, thinking something is about to happen now.”
While this left everyone laughing, it’s imperative to note that Ranbir is no stranger to a family life splattered with abuse.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror in 2011, he stated regarding his parents’ troubled marriage, “Sometimes, the fights would get really bad. I would be sitting on the steps, my head between my knees, till five or six in the morning, waiting for them to stop.”
