The wait is finally over for the Matrix fans as the 5th film of the franchise is in development.
As reported by Deadline, the fifth film of the Matrix franchise is said to be in works at Warner Bros. Studios with director Drew Goddard and executive producer Lana Wachowski.
In an official statement, Jesse Ehrman, the Motion Pictures president of production at Warner Bros. teased the storyline with an advance fantasy world in the upcoming film.
“Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters,” Ehrman said.
He added, “The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making this new ‘Matrix’ film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis’ spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio.”
Meanwhile, Goddar, who also served as the screenwriter on The Martian, said, "It is not hyperbole to say ‘The Matrix’ films changed both cinema and my life."
Goddard continued, “Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world.”
However, it is still not confirmed if Keanu Reeves, who last reprised his role of Neo, in 2021's The Matrix Resurrections will return to the franchise for Matrix 5.
