Diljit Dosanjh has commented on his strained relationship with father, S. Balbir Singh Dosanjh, and mother, Sukhwinder Kaur.
Sitting with Ranveer Allahabadia, he mentioned that his parents had sent him to live with a relative without having a discussion on it first.
“I was eleven years old when I started living with my mama ji. Came to Ludhiana, leaving my village behind. He said, ‘Send him to the city with me,’ and my parents said, ‘Yes, take him.’ They did not even ask me,” the actor recalled.
While this decision was taken to ensure that his basic survival requirements like “food, shelter, and schooling” were covered, it ended up emotionally partitioning him from the family.
Touching up on this, Diljit continued, “I used to stay alone in a small room. Just go to school and come back. There wasn't any TV. I had a lot of time.”
“We didn't have mobile phones back then, even if I had to call home or receive a call from my parents, it cost us money. So I started becoming distant from my family,” he added.
On the other hand, his parents didn’t try reaching out to him either, seemingly becoming detached as well.
The singer concluded, “I respect my mother. My father is a sweet person. He didn’t ask me anything. He didn’t even ask which school I studied in. My connection with them broke. Not just with them, with everyone.”
Fans believe this had a huge impact on Diljit, and is primarily the reason why he turned into a socially awkward recluse.
