From the Editor

Dear all,

Coffee or tea, that is the question. We pondered upon it, and discussed it so much that had our political servants, oops, we mean our rulers, of course, discussed the formation of the coalition government with our zeal, they would have reached consensus. The result of our deliberation was that we decided to go along with the writer's choice: tea. The simple reason was that our tea is superb and is for all seasons and right reasons, whereas Kofi did not help Us a lot!

So, folks, Tea with Us concludes in this issue, and includes your favourite leftovers, oops again! We mean writers. Of course, again! It is Iqra's fault that you all were left over, or perhaps Lubna Jerar Naqvi's who loves to ramble on and on. We are sure Iqra must have edited at least half-a-page, but still she occupied so much space! :)

Anyway, we would be interested in knowing whose answers you liked the best. We would send her/him one T-shirt of The News! Thanks, Iqra, for compiling the interviews so painstakingly; we all loved them.

It seems that you people are old-young! How else may we describe young people who want to shun fashion channels? Pinhar gives so many reasons for banning them that we were almost convinced and about to support her, but then we remembered that 'each is welcome to his/her cup of tea', or even coffee for that matter. And so we included another opinion piece by Faria Shahab, another King Edwardian, (KE has design on Us!) and we welcome her to the Us magazine fraternity. We guess she forgot to take Awais' opinion - we would have been interested in it – but do hope to have a feedback from you all.

For 'Ground Reality', we have Bilal Hussain making his debut with Pakistan cricket team's formidable middle order batsman Misbah-ul-Haq's interview.

Guess that's all we had this week, folks. Don't forget to give Us your precious comments.

Till next time,

Ciao

Dear Editor

Many things in a single letter!

Heya Ed!

This is the first time I'm writing to your mag…or any mag for that matter. I'm not going to say that this mag is awesome because you already get to hear that a lot, and I bet you're tired of hearing it, no matter how true it may be! :p The articles you guys publish are pretty cool. I particularly look forward to reading articles by Saad Javed. The issue of Feb 29, 2008 was really good. The cover story about making money was interesting, and had some pretty good ideas in it. 'Graffiti' as always was funny :D The 'Poets' Corner' was good and the rest of the pages and articles were good, too.

I have one complaint, though… Please get rid of the 'Greetings' page!!!!!! :( It's COMPLETELY USELESS!!! I bet that page could be used for something more useful…like an Arts Corner or something. We artists deserve a page, too, you know! ;p Another thing I wanted to ask you is what is the word count for the cover story and other articles? I know some people asked you that already a few weeks ago, but you didn't say anything about the word count. So please reply to my letter… That is IF you print it which I really hope you will. And I've got just one more request… Well, maybe two…:p Pleeeaaaseeeeeee print the posters of Linkin Park and Papa Roach. And one more request, and this one is for the readers… My request is that please stop thinking that just because all your friends have girl/boyfriends it doesn't mean that you have to have one/two/three as well! People, enjoy your life while you're young!!! So what if everyone in the Western countries has relationships at this age? Their culture and religion are way different and I think it's better for us if we follow our own!!!!

ChocoBerry, Lahore

Hmmm. The word count for cover story should be between 1600-2000 words. While that of a one-page article should be around 650 words.

It's bad!

Hi Ed,

As usual, the first thing I did this Friday after coming from school was to go through the fabulous mag of yours. Everything was good, especially the 'Humour' section. I quite agree with Asad Farooq's letter. It was very saddening to read an article which made fun of people who want to govern Pakistan according to Islamic laws, especially when that article was written by a Muslim writer.

Lojain Maqsood, Sialkot

Letter from a busy reader!

AoA Eeedddddiiitttoooorrr!!!

It's been soooo long since I wrote a letter to you. I had exams, you see; send ups. And now I'm facing pre-Boards in April. Anyway, I really want to compliment Waqas for his article 'Kon banega prime minister'. I just loved it! It showed his genius and comic mind. In the issue of Feb 29, 2008, the 'Graffiti' section was amazing as always. And the article by Jawwad Ahmed 'How to mess up your interview' was very helpful and humorous. I was touched to read the article about Raja Jahanzeb. And last but not the least, I really loved the cover story 'Ways to earn money' by Hafsah. I hope it proves helpful for teenagers. Thumbs up from me to Us magazine. Love you all!

Muntaha Iqbal, Rawalpindi

This letter amazes Us!

Salam Ed!

I am a regular reader of Us mag and I like it pretty much. The 'Graffiti' and 'Trust Us' sections are really cool. Now the thing is that I want to send articles for this mag, so I really want to know if there's any need of membership or something like that. And if the article is published, are we paid for that? I really want an answer from you. Please guide me regarding this. Keep up the good work!

Natasha Malik, Multan

Girl! Where did you get this idea from ;) The membership thingy??? We have never heard of acquiring membership to write for any mag! We have told you people many times, and we repeat; anyone can send his/her articles to Us and they will be printed if they are well-written. That's the only condition. And yes, we do pay for your contributions, but it usually takes a 'little' time… :-p

For Naeema. And for someone else, too ;)

Helloooo Naeema!

I just couldn't keep myself from praising 'One Fine Friday'. I never thought anything could be 'bizarre' and 'sweet' and 'deep' at the same time. Every time I read this guy's poems, I start wondering what's going on inside his head. Lol... Amusing stuff!

Oh! And more Coffee poems! They were nice!

I am happy people have started writing 'Saadish' poems about commonplace feelings. People, who are not in love, can finally enjoy poems! :-p

I really, really want more of such 'amusing stuff'.

Ayesha Amjad, Lahore

Praise and advice

Dear Editor,

This is my first letter to any magazine in my life. I have read a lot of magazines, but your sincere work has compelled me to write to your mag. First of all, I would like to praise you for your hard work. The issue of 29th February was just splendid; especially the topic discussed in the cover story by Hafsah Sarfraz. It was outstanding. I congratulate her on her good work. And please try to publish meaningful topics in the cover story section. Keep working hard.

Muhammad Zikria

Hello Ed,

The issue of Feb 29, 2008 was great. I really liked that. You guys are doing a superb job. But I have a complaint, too, about the mag. The 'Greetings' page is totally a dump. Don't you think so? But the rest is good, really good. I totally agree with Zara's point of view that you never print the posters of Pakistani celebrities. They represent our country after all.

Anyway, your cover stories are really good and I think we all enjoy them. And yes, I have another suggestion for you. Please improve your style; make it more attractive and colourful. Best of luck!

Ayesha Azam

For…

Dear Aangan Psychologist and Guru,

I am a regular reader of Us and I am very impressed with your pages 'In your Aangan' and 'Trust Us'.

I think it's a good initiative to encourage the victims of various mishaps to express their feelings about their problems. Also, it can be helpful for those who read it, as they can become aware of the horrible incidents taking place in our society.

I'm a fan of Guru as well who guides all the people who contact him/her sincerely and brighten them up with best advises.

It's my first ever letter to any magazine or newspaper, so please include it in your next edition.

Mehwish Ashfaq, Sialkot

Nice work!

Dear Ed,

It goes without saying that Us is a treat on Fridays. So I have to take time out for it no matter how busy my routine is. 29th February issue was really fantastic. Kanza Tariq's article on the entry test preparation was another great effort from her; it covered every aspect and will definitely be very helpful. Good job! The Tribute to Raja Jahanzeb was a very good write up too and was really touchy. It's good to see such articles getting published. The rest of the issue was good, too. Keep up the good work!

Aorish Abbas, Islamabad
