Former point guard and National Basketball Association (NBA) player Darius Morris died at the age of 33.
TMZ Sports confirmed that the body of the basketball player was discovered on Thursday, May 2, in the Los Angeles area.
Meanwhile, the net guard’s parents announced his death on Saturday in a statement.
The statement read, “With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."
Morris began his basketball career with the University of Michigan’s Wolverines and played for the team from 2009 to 2011.
There, he made history and became one of the five players at the school to make more than 200 assists in a season.
Following his successful career, he entered the NBA Draft in 2011 and was selected by the Lakes. After playing two seasons with the Lakes, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Memphis Grizzlies and ended his career with the Brooklyn Nets in 2015.
Former Michigan coach John Beilein reflected on Morris’ death in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Beilein wrote, “Saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine Darius Morris. In 2010-11, Darius was our starting (point guard). He was a leader in that program-changing 21-win season that laid the foundation for Michigan’s next decade of success. RIP DMo, and condolences to the Morris family."
