Kate Middleton breaks long-standing birthday ritual for Prince George

Kate Middleton officially alters big day custom for all children

Kate Middleton and Prince William have reportedly broken a long-followed tradition while releasing son Prince George’s new portrait in honor of his 11th birthday today, on July 22.

According to Hello Magazine, the Princess of Wales personally clicks a photo of her children on their respective birthdays, then the said image is released “under embargo to the press.”

This means that Prince William and Kate Middleton share these official photographs with the media, which then floats them through their own accounts on the eve of the big day.

But Prince George’s snap was instead directly posted online by the royal couple this year, breaking another practice that was followed by his mum until now.

In fact, the same thing happened with Prince Louis’ sixth birthday earlier on April 23, meaning that Prince William has now changed his strategy for his children’s celebratory days.

And, of course, the photograph was uploaded on the duo’s own Instagram profile on Prince Charlotte’s ninth birthday back on May 2.

While it’s not known why this decision has been taken by Kate Middleton and her husband, speculators predict that it must have something to do with their privacy or the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis.
