Rafael Nadal gets candid about Olympics partnership with Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal linked up for the doubles championship for the first time

Olympics singles 2008 gold medalist Rafael Nadal and Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz pledged to make every possible effort to give their best at their first-ever link-up in doubles in the Paris Olympics.

According to Tennis World, the Spanish Olympic Committee organized the media day for two Spanish tennis stars, during which Nadal got brutally honest and said he could not guarantee a medal. He said, “I understand the emotion and the thrill of seeing us together, but that doesn't guarantee success. Carlos hasn't played many doubles, and I haven't played many doubles or many singles. It's a different competition. Playing on clay could help us because playing well from the baseline individually gives you advantages in points.

22-time Grand Slam winner further added, “We'll start with energy and see what happens. It's always a huge emotion to be at the Olympics, even if I've been there before. Participating in the biggest sporting event is an honor. We’ll try to go as far as possible.”

Nadal vowed, “We trust in the great moment that Carlos is in. We’re going to give our all to try and at least leave with the peace of mind of having done everything possible.”

14-times French Open winner Nadal will also face recent French Open winner Alcaraz in the singles at Ronald Garros.
