Janet Jackson has opened up about the emotional experience of performing her iconic duet Scream with her late brother Michael Jackson on her current tour.

In an interview with the BBC, the 58-year-old superstar revealed that singing the song alongside video footage of Michael brings back fond memories of their time together in the studio.

"Mike and I wrote that song in New York, in his apartment. So [I relive] that whole journey, listening to him sing it [and remembering] what he was going through at that time,” she told the outlet.

Janet went on to share, “And just me being his little sister, always by his side, and being that support system. That's always been my role."

Janet also admitted that performing the duet alongside video footage of Michael gets her emotional.

The song, released in 1995, was a response to Michael's struggles with fame, public harassment, and tabloid scrutiny as the lyrics include, “I'm tired of injustice, I'm tired of the schemes / Your lies are disgusting / So, what does it mean, damn it?”

Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson’s duet song Scream achieved significant chart success, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and staying on the chart for 17 weeks.

Additionally, the song and its video earned numerous prestigious awards and nominations, including, 1996 Grammy for best music video.
