Bollywood’s leading filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is well-known for his big budgeted and mega blockbuster films.
The director’s latest venture Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring superstar Alia Bhatt in a powerful role, has now landed itself in a legal court battle over alleged defamation claims.
The Mumbai court has summoned the ace director and Raazi actress over the alleged claims made by Gangubai’s adopted son, Babuji Shah over wrongful portrayal and factually-incorrect representation of his mother in the upcoming film. Bhansali, Bhatt and author Hussain Zaidi have been summoned by Mumbai court on May 21, as per the Times of India reported.

Shah had also filed a lawsuit claiming restraining order against the release of the film and Mafia Queens author Zaidi as well. As per the earlier reports, the upcoming film narrates the real life story of a brothel owner Gangubai Kathiawadi, played by Bhatt. The film is based on a book by Zaidi, titled Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
The upcoming crime drama has been produced by Bhansali and co-produced by Jayantilal Gada. Gangubai Kathiawadi was earlier scheduled to be released in September 2020, but it was delayed due to the pandemic outbreak. The film is now slated to release on July 30.
