Spotify reintroduces 'lyrics' feature for free users

Spotify is bringing back its lyrics feature for free users after it was previously removed and limited to premium subscribers.

As per Gadget 360, this change follows significant feedback from users who expressed frustration over the feature's unavailability for those on the free tier.

Previously, Spotify had restricted access to lyrics for free users starting in September 2023, requiring a premium subscription to view lyrics after three song views.

The decision led to widespread complaints across social media and Spotify’s community forums.

A Spotify spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that lyrics will be available again to free-tier users, although there will still be a limit on how many lyrics can be accessed.

However, the exact number of accessible lyrics was not disclosed but is described as being “higher than anyone would ever reach,” suggesting a substantial increase from the previous limit.

The update comes shortly after Spotify announced plans for a new “deluxe” subscription tier that will include high-fidelity audio streaming.

The roll-out of the lyrics feature is expected to occur over the coming weeks, expanding access to more users globally.
