Carlos Alcaraz took revenge for the Cincinnati Open loss to the French tennis player Gael Monfils after beating him in the fourth round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters.

According to Tennis Infinity, the 2024 Wimbledon and French Open winner defeated Monfils 6-4, 7-5, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament.

A win over Monfils, four-time Grand Slam champion, took revenge for the “worst match” of his career at the Cincinnati Open in which the 12-time ATP Tour title winner defeated him in three sets.

After qualifying for the next round, he said, “The main thing I tried is to stay calm. Just to control my emotions. Waited for my chances. I had some opportunities that I could break his serve in the second set but I didn’t make it. In those times, I tried to stay calm and think that I’m gonna have more chances."

The 21-year-old further added, “The main thing I tried is to stay calm. Just to control my emotions. Waited for my chances. I had some opportunities that I could break his serve in the second set but I didn’t make it. In those times I tried to stay calm and think that I’m gonna have more chances."

Alcaraz will face either Tommy Paul or Tomas Machac in the quarter-finals on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
