David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper received a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their groundbreaking research on protein.

According to Global News, the chairman of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry, Heiner Linke, announced the Nobel Prize winners on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

He said that trio research found possible connections between Protein structure and Amino Acid.

As per the Noble committee, Baker designed the protein structure in 2003, which can be used by pharmaceuticals for different vaccines while Hassabis and Jumper created an artificial intelligence model that can predict the structure of 200 million proteins.

Baker works at a university in Seattle, while Jumper and Hassabis are employed at Google Deep Mind in London.

During the announcement, Linke said, “That was actually called a grand challenge in chemistry, and in particular in biochemistry, for decades. So, it’s that breakthrough that gets awarded today.”

“Four years ago in 2020, Demis Hassabis and John Jumper managed to crack the code. With skillful use of artificial intelligence, they made it possible to predict the complex structure of essentially any known protein in nature,” he further added.

To note, the Prize for Literature will be announced on Thursday and the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced On Friday, October 11, 2024.
