Lewis Hamilton has expressed immense gratitude to get the opportunity to co-chair 2025 Met Gala along with many renowned celebrities.
The Formula One driver, who has won seven World Drivers' Championship titles, will be co-sharing the fashion event with actor Colman Domingo, rappers A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams and, editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.
On Wednesday, he penned a lengthy note on Instagram to acknowledge the great opportunity.
Lewis wrote, “I’m beyond honored to be one of the co-chairs for next year’s Met Gala, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. This theme speaks to me deeply. When I started my career I never imagined what I might be capable of beyond my sport.”
“The pressure to conform holds so many people back. Growing up as the only Black kid on the track, so often that pressure got to me. Expressing myself creatively was and still is my freedom from that conformity. For Black people across the diaspora, fashion is self-preservation,” he noted.
The Mercedes driver also appreciated the Met Costume Institute for providing a platform to uplift “black creatives.”
Met Gala 2025 will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 5, 2025.
