Kangana Ranaut talks about Bollywood's obsession with fair complexion

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut opened up about Bollywood’s deep penchant for fair skin, and she relayed her fair-coloured skin is her least favourite thing about herself.

The Queen actress admitted that had she given in to the fair complexion's obsession of the producers, she could’ve made a huge name for herself within 3-4 years only. But Kangana wanted to prove her worth and show that she is much more than skin colour.

While talking about her struggle to establish she’s more than her looks, Kangana said:

"I tried to make my own place and that was a big struggle. If I had to settle for what they were giving me, I don't think I would have come this far. For them, beauty was being fair,” she shared.

“I was fair enough and I could have made a place for myself for 3-4 years, which anybody with a fair complexion can. So, that was all that they wanted. They were willing to give me that shelf life in return for the fair complexion. But I was not okay with that.”.

Kangana has previously also refused to endorse skin whitening products. She explained that she doesn’t fancy her fair complexion because of how it takes away the limelight from her talent.

“My fair complexion is the least of my favourite things,” she continued. “There is so much more to me as an individual and I was appalled to see that they didn’t care about that. They had nothing to do with that. Now they must be surprised to see what kind of a person I turned out to be.”
