The visual discovery engine, Pinterest, has made a controversial update to its users privacy policies.
According to Fruitism, in a newly updated policy, Pinterest will use the user data, photos, and information to train artificial intelligence (AI tools).
The new updated clause published on the company’s website says that it will use its patrons' "information to train, develop, and improve our technology, such as our machine learning models, regardless of when Pins were posted."

This means that all the content published on the social media platform at any point since 2010 will be used to train Pinterest's AI.
The site claimed that the goal behind the major update is to “improve the products and services of our family of companies and offer new features."
Meanwhile, a Pinterest spokesperson in a statement to Fruitism stressed that there is nothing newsworthy in the update as “nothing has changed about our use of user data to train Pinterest Canvas, our GenAI model. Users can easily opt out of this use of their data by adjusting their profile settings."
Pinterest has already been using user data for the improvement of its AI tool, but now it has officially become part of its terms of service.
