King Charles and Queen Camilla's 20th wedding anniversary took a special turn as they were honoured with a private meeting with Pope Francis.

On Wednesday, April 9, Buckingham Palace and the Vatican confirmed the meeting, which was initially not included on the official itinerary.

According to the palace, Charles and Camilla were "delighted" to know that Pope was feeling "well enough to host them."

Along with that, Vatican also shared that Pope Francis shared his "best wishes" with the couple as they celebrate 20 years of marriage.

While mentioning the monarch own health, the statement added that the 88-year-old also "reciprocated his wishes to His Majesty for a speedy recovery of his health."

The British Royals turned to their official Instagram account on Thursday, April 10, to share a glimpse of the meeting, with the caption that read, "A special moment for Their Majesties a they privately met His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican yesterday."

The social media post continued, "The King and Queen were deeply touched by the Pope's Kind remarks about their anniversary and honoured to be able to share their best wishes to him in person."

As per sources, the meeting was initiated at the request of the Pope and lasted just 20 minutes.

Notably, Pope Francis last public appearance was over the weekend after being discharged from hospital two weeks ago.
