King Charles III and Queen Camilla have made their first and historic appearance in Wales for a key pre-Easter service!
His Majesty, who has decided to attend the royal event without delivering a speech, has joined his life partner for the Maundy service, which was held in North Wales at St Asaph Cathedral on Thursday, April 2nd.
The 77-year-old British monarch, then Prince of Wales, also met the Welsh Archbishop, Cherry Vann, for the first time, to mark the event.
During the pious gathering, King Charles made a bold move, auctioning his special Processional Cross of Wales to the Christians of the territory, as a heartfelt pre-Easter gift.
What is pertinent to mention here is that the Processional Cross was given to the King by the late religious icon, Pope Francis, when he led the monarch’s historical Coronation ceremony in 2023.
This service marked King Charles and Queen Camilla’s first since they ascended to the throne the late Queen Elizabeth II after her demise in 2022.
For the prestigious event, King Charles opted for a long blue coat, which he paired with a white shirt and coordinated pants.
Queen Camilla wore a dark navy-blue full-sleeved gown with a matching hat.
Before the royal couple, the Maundy service was initially held in 1210 by King John.
