Sanjay Leela Bhansali has at last released the first look for his much-awaited series, Heeramandi.

The celebrated filmmaker, who is known for spectacular cinematography, has once again lived up to his name by teasing magnificent shots of the upcoming series set in a courtesan neighbourhood of the 1940s.

Lead actors Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh appear one by one in grand costumes, taking the audience into their world of thrills and troubles.

Sonakshi’s entry is especially garnering interest online as it hints at a character seeking revenge. Even Aditi, clad in a burqa, fires a gun in one quick glimpse.

Richa, who is expected to play someone with a snarky rebellious personality, is also garnering praise.

She has already earned a name in this category with her roles in movies Fukrey, Lahore Confidential, Shakeela, and Tamanchey, and so is naturally enticing fans.

Heeramandi is a district in Lahore’s Old City of Pakistan. As per Netflix, the show will focus on what chaos unfolded in this neighbourhood around the time of independence.

There are sub-plots of love, power, celebrations, freedom movements, and trials.

Before this, a similar production based on courtesans’ struggles during the partition was released in 2017 by director Srijit Mukherji. It was named Begum Jaan, and starred actors Vidya Balan, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, and Naseeruddin Shah.
