Vikrant Massey, who recently won the best actor critics at the 2024 Filmfare awards gave explanation for one of his old tweets in new apology post.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the Mirzapur star penned an apology note to clear the air around his now deleted 2018 tweet, clarifying that he had no intentions to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.
"In context to one of my Tweets way back in 2018, I’d like to say a few words: It was never my intention to hurt, malign or disrespect the Hindu community," wrote Vikraant.
He further continued, “But as I reflect in hindsight about a Tweet made in jest, I also release the distasteful nature of it. The same could have been said without adding the cartoon which was published in a newspaper. And I’d with utmost humility like to apologise to each and everyone who has been hurt (folded hands emoji)."
The Haseen Dilruba actor concluded his apology, noting, "As you all by now know, that I hold all faiths, beliefs and religions with the highest possible regard. We all grow up with time and reflect upon our mistakes. This was mine. Regards.”
This heartfelt apology from Vikraant Massey came nearly seven years after his tweet, in the wake of his newfound fame with the success of his new film 12th Fail.
As reported by Hindustan Times, in 2018, Vikrant had tweeted the cartoons of Lord Ram and Sita's (Hindu gods) linking them with the rapes cases, noting, “I’m so glad I was kidnapped by Ravan and not by your bhakts! (Sita was seen telling Lord Ram in a cartoon while she held a newspaper)."
He added, "Half baked potatoes and half baked nationalists will only cause a pain in the gut. #KathuaCasr #Unnao #Shame.”
To note, as revealed by the actor himself in his latest interview, he comes from a religiously divers family, as his brother turned to Islam in 2017, his mother belongs to Sikh religion and his father is a church going Christian.
