Former light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan expressed disappointment over his boxing academy closure in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Britain’s youngest boxing Olympic medalist made a video in which he raised his concerns, saying, “I keep coming to Pakistan; initially, there was an academy here. Now, children message me that they cannot fight and they want to do training."

He questioned, “Why isn’t there boxing in Pakistan? I’ve spoken to officials and the government, but nothing happened.”

Khan added, “My gym was brand new and very clean, but it got shut down. I’m in Pakistan; tomorrow I’m going to England, and I’m very disappointed. I’m very upset that over a hundred thousand dollars I spent on the gym is now wasted.”

Khan inaugurated his boxing academy at Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad in 2016 under his campaign to nourish young boxers in the country.

The boxing academy remained functional till 2022, until the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) cleared the academy for ‘renovation and overhauling.’

However, as per local media reports Frontier Corps (FC) personnel have been residing at the place since then for almost two years.
