Jennifer Lawrence took a jab at former Vice President Mike Pence at the star-studded GLAAD Media Awards.
While presenting the trophy to the musician Orville Peck in New York City, the Oscar-winning actress revealed, "I love the gay community. In fact, I was in love with a homosexual. He was my first love."
The American Hustle actress then cupped her mouth saying, "I tried to convert him for years, but now I know conversion therapy doesn't work. Did you hear me, Mike Pence? I said conversion therapy isn't real,"
"Even though I know you think it worked on you," she quipped.
However, it is pertinent to note that a rep for Pence did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for a comment.
In a January 2018 statement, Pence’s press Secretary Alyssa Farah Griffin said, “ Mike has never supported the concept of conversdion therapy. The accusation is totally false with no basis in fact.”
“Despite these misinformed claims [about conversion therapy], the vice president will be enthusiastically supporting all the U.S. athletes competing next month in Pyeongchang,” Farah said.
To note the GLAAD Media awards is a US accolade bestowed by GLAAD to honour various branches of the media for their outstanding contributions.
