Selena Gomez erupted with tears yesterday after having received the longest standing ovation given to anyone this year at the Cannes Film Festival.
Her upcoming movie, Emilia Pérez, was premiered at the event on Saturday, May 18, and was very well received by its audiences.
Once the film had stopped rolling, everyone stood up and applauded the singer for nine minutes straight, creating a new 2024 Cannes record.
As reported by Variety, people started whistling, hooting, and cheering for Selena Gomez as an act of encouragement when she was spotted wiping her tears away.
Today, on May 19, the vocalist issued a note through her Instagram profile for extending gratitude toward those who had embraced her production so nicely.
She wrote, “Thank you, Cannes! I’m so honored to be a small part of something so special in Emilia Pérez. Jacques Audiard, thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me.”
“Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofía Gascón, Édgar Ramírez, and every single person apart of this film absolutely blew me away,” Selena Gomez added.
With this, she attached some shots taken with her cast members at the film festival.
