Fred Roos, who largely worked as the producer for American films, has died at the age of 89.

It was on May 18 that he passed away in Beverly Hills, but the news for this has been made public today, on May 21, by Variety.

The celebrity’s birthday was celebrated on May 22, making him only four days away from marking his 90th birthday anniversary.

Working as both an executive producer and a casting director, Fred Roos gave Hollywood many cinematic wonders, such as The Outsiders, Marie Antoinette, The Cotton Club, and One from the Heart.

While his latest movie, Megalopolis, was popular as well, he very famously produced Apocalypse Now and Godfather Part II, for which an Oscar was also won by him in the “Best Picture” category.

It was from that film that he went on to build a close bond with Francis Ford Coppola, but it’s not known whether he was present at the funeral.

Neither has the cause for Fred Roos’ death been reported, although Dignity Memorial has stated that he’s “in the care of Pierce Brother Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary.”
