Prince William’s sons, Princes George and Louis may be forced to enlist for potentially mandatory military service in the UK if Rishi Sunak is re-elected and fulfils his pledge to bring back the National Service.
According to The Telegraph, young royals won’t be exempt from enlistment as Sunak’s plan for the return of mandatory National Service for British men has ‘very little exceptions’ to get out of it.
As such, all young royals will qualify for National Service at 18, including the eldest two, Prince George, who will turn 18 in 2031, and his elder cousin, Prince Edward’s son, the Earl of Wessex, who will turn 18 in two years.
Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, will also be eligible, as well as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s children.
This comes after UK PM Sunak’s announcement on Saturday received widespread backlash in the UK.
Sunak told Telegraph: “I will bring in a new version of National Service to create a shared sense of purpose among our young people and a renewed sense of pride in our country.”
It is pertinent to note that mandatory National Service was abolished in the UK back in the early 1960s.
