Basketball icon Bill Walton has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

The NBA shared this unfortunate news in a press release on the morning of Monday, May 27th.

Bill took his last breath surrounded by his family.

A star at UCLA from 1971 to 1974, Walton was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers as the first overall pick in the 1974 NBA draft.

During his four seasons in Portland, he secured two NBA titles and an MVP award.

In addition to his on-court achievements, Walton became a beloved figure in the broadcasting world.

Beginning with ESPN in the early 2000s, he transitioned to college basketball commentary in 2012, where he remained for the rest of his life.

Moreover, Bill is survived by his wife, Lori, and their four sons: Adam, Nathan, Chris, and Luke.

Luke has continued his father's basketball legacy by becoming both a player and coach in the NBA.
