Tom Holland’s latest performance in the last week’s opening of Romeo & Juliet theatre play has left critics booing him badly.

On the other hand, reviewers have simultaneously been complimenting heroine Francesca Amewudah-Rivers for pulling the “modern Juliet” quite well as a newcomer.

The show was branded an “edgy” take by director Jamie Lloyd on Shakespeare’s most popular love story.

In it, Tom Holland’s acting has been surprisingly declared “uncharismatic” and “forgettable.”

Hugh Montgomery wrote for BBC, “It’s a depressingly lifeless affair. Tom Holland has a habit of acting out one mood at a time, rather than making his Romeo convincingly psychologically rounded.”

Calling the actor’s portrayal a forgettable emotional failure, he handed out a two-star rating to the drama.

“For the most part, Tom Holland is a subdued, teary, vulnerable, underwhelming fellow; it’s hard to see why Juliet would go to such lengths for him,” Demetrius Patterson from Hollywood Reporter said.

Critics called Francesca Amewudah-Rivers the “saving grace” of Romeo & Juliet that has been labeled a very big thing since she endured “racial abuse” for her casting, as per Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Neil Normal from The Express had a field day labelling the show “absolute drivel” and dubbing Tom Holland as a “buff, weedy guy” who’s suitable for Peter Parker, but not Romeo.
