Nick Carter’s ex Kaya Jones has publicly expressed her belief that “something horrific” happened to Melissa Schuman, who has been accused of the rape of the Backstreet Boys star.

In an excerpt from the exclusive PEOPLE shared docuseries Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter on Investigation Discovery, Jones discloses that she contacted Schuman in 2017 following the Always singer's allegations that Carter sexually assaulted her in his Santa Monica apartment in 2003.

Jones said, “Nick Carter was my boyfriend when I was in the Pussycat Dolls, and I saw the very detailed allegation about Nick and the response.”

The singer and model added, “It bothered me. Because it was discrediting this girl [Schuman]. So I wanted to hear what Melissa had to say.”

In a clip, she continued, “Kaya was so kind to me,” adding, “I think we must’ve spoken for hours. I needed someone to tell me that my life wasn’t over.”

As per PEOPLE, Carter's attorney Dale Hayes Jr. labeled the allegations "outrageous," and also mentioned that Carter's countersuit of his accusers is yet to be in pending.

"These are exactly the same outrageous claims that led us to sue this gang of conspirators," Hayes said.

The statement further added, “Those cases are working their way through the legal system now, and, based on both the initial court rulings and the overwhelming evidence, we have every belief that we will prevail and hold them accountable for spreading these falsehoods.”

To note, Schuman accused Carter of sexual assault and battery in 2017.

Then, in February 2023, she was included in a countersuit filed by Carter against Shannon Ruth, and in April 2023, Schuman sued Carter over the alleged 2003 incident.
