Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday that the company plans to start limited production of its humanoid robots for internal use next year.

Named Optimus, these robots could be in high production for other companies by 2026.

In April, Musk mentioned that Optimus would be capable of performing factory tasks by the end of this year, with potential availability for sale by the end of 2025, as per multiple outlets.

Meanwhile, companies like Honda and Hyundai's Boston Dynamics have been working on humanoid robots for years, targeting labor shortages and repetitive tasks in logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing.

Musk has a history of making bold promises. In 2019, he claimed that Tesla would have a network of autonomous "robotaxi" cars by 2020, a goal that has yet to be realized.

Recently, Musk indicated that the robotaxi design needed significant changes.

Tesla introduced the first generation of its Optimus robot, dubbed Bumblebee, in September 2022.

This year, they showcased a second-generation model in a video, demonstrating the robot folding a T-shirt.

Moreover, Tesla is set to report its second-quarter results on Tuesday, with expectations of a five-year low in profit margins.
