Adjoa Andoh, the actress who plays Lady Danbury on Netflix's hit series Bridgerton, has spoken out against the show's treatment of Black actors.

In a recent appearance at Stirring It Up podcast, Andoh expressed her frustration for the show's failure to properly light Black actors, including herself.

Despite the show's diverse casting and huge success, Andoh claimed that nothing has been done to address the issue and revealed that she has to constantly ask if she's being lit correctly.

“The continuing conversation about lighting Black skin on every show, nothing’s changed,” she noted.

Andoh acknowledged that things are getting better, but emphasized that she shouldn't have to fight for proper lighting.

She wants to be able to focus on her work, saying, "I want to stay in character. I just want to come on and be Lady Danbury and do what she’s got to do and be totally engaged with that.”

“I’m just a human being and I just want to do the gift that I’m blessed with. I want to do it in a free way, like I see many other people doing,” she added.

The actress also shared her struggles with self-doubt, wondering if her race affects her casting decisions.

"I don't want to think about it..I just want to get the job because I’m great, or not get the job because I’m s---.

Adjoa Andoh’s comments come as Bridgerton's third season achieves record-breaking success.
