Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, has earned a new accolade, “Umbrella Holder!”

During the red carpet event of the highly anticipated 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, Ohanian stood diligently behind his tennis-player wife holding an umbrella, ensuring that she stayed dry amid the pouring rain.

As the Reddit founder followed his wife, a Eurosport commentator called him as Williams’ “umbrella holder,” unaware of the fact that he was actually her husband.

"She [Serena] looks absolutely incredible. She's got someone just behind us holding an umbrella," commentator Laura Woods said.

She continued, “Those are the levels you aspire to. To have an actual umbrella holder behind you."

Wood’s error prompted a series of entertaining responses on X, with Ohanian adding to the fun by reposting the Tennis Letter’s commentary on the blunder.

"TV commentator: 'Serena Williams even has her own personal umbrella holder'. FYI... the ‘umbrella holder’ ’is Alexis Ohanian, her husband. He’s one of the founders of Reddit,” read the post.

Williams played a prominent role in the event along with tennis star Rafael Nadal, American field icon Carl Lewis, and Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci to carry the Olympic torch to the cauldron by the Louvre.
