Pakistani actor and host, Mira Sethi wrote a feature for Vogue in which she gave rare insight into her marriage. She revealed being schooled for not moving to US where her husband Bilal lives.
The feature is titled as A Pandemic, a Marriage, and a Life on Two Continents. It begins, âMy husband, Bilal, lives and works in San Francisco. Before getting married, my notion of home had been tethered to Pakistan. Itâs where Iâd grown up, the place Iâd scurried back to just a few years after graduating from college in the States. My then-boyfriend and I broke up not long after I moved backânot because we had lost interest in one another but because we couldnât find middle ground between Karachi and Oakland, where he lived. Several years later, the irony of getting married in the Bay Area was not lost on me.â
Sethi then shared how people were upset with her for staying in Pakistan for work and not moving to San Francisco after getting married.
She shared, âAfter I got married, an aunt got wind of my ambitious plan. âWhat is this Iâm hearing?â she said. âWhy canât you just go to San Francisco and be with him like a normal person?â but what about my acting career? I asked. âTake a theater class in Frisco.â Nobody calls it that, I wanted to say. Iâm a television actor, I said. I canât just give it all up and start again. Itâs a very competitive industry. âYouâre married now,â So? âSo go and be with your husband!ââ
Sethi also shared that her husband respects her decision to stay in Pakistan and he often gets worried when she has nothing to do.Â
