The sequel of 2008 Bollywood hit Dostana has been in the headlines after the film production house, Dharma Production announced to replace the male lead actor Kartik Aryan, after 20 days shoot for the film on the basis of ‘creative differences.’
Dharma Production’s released an official announcement, saying, "Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence – we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Collin D’Cunha. Please wait for the official announcement soon. – Dharma Productions".
After the shocking announcement, speculation grew stronger around the name, who would be replacing the Luka Chuppi actor in the upcoming film.
Reportedly, film producer Karan Johar has requested Bollywood’s Khiladi, Akshay Kumar to join the cast of the upcoming flick.
As per reported by Indian media outlet Hindustan Times, the Special 26 has been requested by Dharma Productions to join the cast of Dostana 2 and save them from the 'tricky situation.'
An inside source revealed to HT that, “Karan Johar has personally requested Akshay to come on board Dostana 2 and help him out, as lots of money has already been invested in the shoot of the film. So, in all likelihood, Akshay will join the cast.”
The source further shared that the film script will also be changed since the previous one was tailored to fit Aryan's character. “Karan is even ready to make changes to the script — which was earlier written keeping Kartik in mind — so that it fits Akshay’s character,” it added.
Dostana 2 was kicked off with the cast including Aryan, Janhvi Kapoor and TV actor Lakshya. The film was announced in 2019.
In a statement, Johar then shared that he had been ecstatic to cast Aryan in upcoming film. "I am excited to take the franchise forward with Kartik and Janhvi! This is our first film at Dharma with Kartik and we are very excited to work with him. I can’t wait to create some desi boy and girl madness with Kartik and Janhvi," he had said.
