Pakistani celebrities mourn the sad demise of veteran actress Sumbul Shahid. She passed away on Thursday after a month-long battle with COVID-19.

She had been receiving treatment at Lahore’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH) since last month. Her condition deteriorated on April 22, after which she was placed on a ventilator.

The late actress’ sister and leading Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari took to Instagram and shared an adorable picture of her with her sisters from January this year. In the caption, she wrote, “Kya Pata tha hamain..that well celeberate your last birthday in Jan.2021”


Ansari had previously revealed that both Shahid and their mother Mahmooda Bashir were suffering from the deadly virus. She had asked her fans and followers for prayers for the better health of her loved ones.

A number of showbiz industry’s actors and celebrities took to their social media handles to pay their last respects to Shaid, who has been their favorite star and co-actor.

Actor Shahroz Sabzwari shared a picture of himself with the late actress on his Instagram story. He wrote, “You were not just a mother to me on the screen but like a mother to me every day on our sets as well. My dearest Aunt Pappo, may your soul rest in peace and may Allah Pak grant you a beautiful place in heaven.” Shahid was last seen on screen with Sabzwari in drama serial Nand.

Actress Hira Mani also uploaded a photo of Shahid on the photo-sharing platform, sharing that Shahid will continue to live in everyone’s hearts.

Actor and host Ayesha Omar posted a heart touching tribute on her Instagram handle, as she spoke about Shahid’s son who passed away in a paragliding incident one year ago in Chitral. She wrote, “Inna lillahe wainna ilehay rajaoon. This is so so tragic. Sumbul Apa was a bundle of light and energy and lit up every space she was in. She was like a mother to so many of us. She has been reunited with her darling son, Shiraz, who we lovingly called Sheery, and lost a few years ago to the mountains. May Allah bless both their souls and grant them a place in Jannat.”


Actress Zara Noor Abbas shared a video of the deceased artist singing. She captioned the post, “My nightingale. Nothing will ever be the same. Rest in peace Pappo. You have left us all broken.”

Superstar actor Osman Khalid Butt wrote on Instagram, “Inna lillahi wa inna illayihi raji’un. Sumbul Shahid ji has passed away. May Allah grant her the highest place in Jannah and give her loved ones the strength to cope with this loss. My heart goes out to her family.”

TV host and actor Fahad Mustafa posted a picture of Shahid alongside a caption that read, “Condolences to the family of late Apa Sumbul Shahid Allah darjaat bulund kare (may God increase her rank).”

Ali Safina, who starred along with Shahid in the popular drama Dolly Ki Ayegi Barrat and Takay Ki Ayegi Baarat shared in a post, she played the role of his mother, and ever since then they shared a mother and son bond. “Today indeed is a very sad day for the entire family,” he wrote.
