Princess Leonor has paid a subtle tribute to her father King Felipe by taking over a historic role at a special event.

On Friday, the Princess of Asturias took over the role of “flag bearer” at the swearing-in ceremony of 45 Spanish residents in Uruguay.

Her discipline was reminiscent of Felipe, who was also a flag bearer in 1987 during his training as a midshipman.

During the event, the heir to the crown was responsible for carrying the national flag.

The Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles and 45 Spanish residents in Uruguay attended the event.

King Felipe took to Instagram and shared details about the major event, “The Princess of Asturias acts as flag bearer at the swearing-in ceremony of 45 Spanish residents in Uruguay during the stopover of the training ship 'Juan Sebastián de Elcano' in Montevideo.”

In another post, he penned, “Oath of allegiance by Spanish residents in Uruguay on board the training ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’, with the Princess of Asturias as the flag bearer.”

To note, Princess Leonor is currently undergoing a three-year military training program, which will prepare her for her future role as Commander-in-Chief of the Spanish Armed Forces.
