King Charles is poking fun at his health weeks after his hospitalization!
The monarch, who diagnosed with cancer in early 2024, made a lighthearted joke about his health on the final day of his state visit to Italy.
His Majesty, who is known for his environmental advocacy, planted a tree in Rome's Villa Wolkonsky gardens, the ambassador's residence where the King and Queen have been staying during the visit.
While planting the tree, King Charles jokingly quipped, “Well, I do hope that I shall live long enough to see a little bit of growth in the tree."
Earlier to this, the monarch spent 20 minutes chatting with representatives of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA), which offers a conceptual framework for using renewable natural capital to holistically transform and manage land, food and health.
The lighthearted comment of King Charles comes weeks after his hospitalization on March 27 due to “temporary side effects” of his cancer treatment.
After planting the tree, King Charles reunited with Queen Camilla and they headed to the airport to travel to Ravenna to fulfill their remaining engagements.
